What is Pyro Nation? And Why?

Hey! If you’re reading this, then you somehow managed to stumble upon our up & coming nook in the pyro world. Perhaps you found it from my YouTube channel (Evolution2001)? Either way, Welcome!
The site is currently in Beta testing…but I feel we’re really close to rolling it out publicly. Right now, there’s not much content because we just got the site up & running. And like any new place on the web, it’s going to take some time to get people here and contributing.

So What is Pyro Nation? and/or Why did you create it?
Those questions and their answers are closely related.
First, the TL;DR
This is a traditional internet forum that is better suited to conversations and longterm retention of knowledge. Pyro-Nation.com was created because Facebook sucks in just about every metric.

Now the long answers.
The site was created because I’m an old school guy. I grew up using internet forums. I understand the value they bring to any specific community. Then Facebook came along and almost single-handedly destroyed traditional forums. Specific to our community, two words: Pyro Universe
While I initially can’t blame FB for becoming popular, it is very clear now and has been for quite a while, that FB doesn’t care about you or us. Our eyeballs and attention span is a commodity for Meta. FB is free to use because WE are the commodity that Meta is selling. And now it’s just gone too far with their efforts at using AI to moderate both individuals and legitimate businesses that were trying to use FB within their guidelines. It simply isn’t worth trying to be part of a community (on Facebook) that has ZERO interest in actually caring about us. Name just ONE time where FB “has done you wrong” and you were able to get support and/or talk to a human or feel any semblance of resolution!

So rather than “just deal with it”, I chose to do something about it and enlisted the help of @Eko to help build this site.

This site is private from an ownership perspective. (All the content is currently public and will probably eventually be crawled by Google spiders and Microsoft ChatGPT/Bing, and then indexed into their algorithms.) We (Pyro Nation) are not beholden to shareholders or the government oversight that comes with publicly traded companies or even massive private companies like Facebook once was. Now, that doesn’t mean this is a place for anarchy. It’s not and I will not let it devolve into that. However, it is intended to be a place where we can speak openly about pyro-related things, ideas, etc., -within the bounds of what’s legal- and not be concerned that the A.I. Overlords are going to shut you down. IF you get shutdown, it’s going to be a conscious decision by another human administrator or moderator. But, hey, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

For now, let’s try to build this community as a solid alternative to FB. I already have awareness that Cobra Firing Systems is planning on releasing a similar platform. That’s great! There’s room for everyone, as the proliferation of FB Groups can easily attest.

So what’s next?
There are still sample posts and other rando stuff in some of the forums / subforums. Over time, it will be removed. If it’s not pyro related, then you can probably ignore it. Unless it’s the “Site Feedback” forum where there is some actual information in there that is useful, but not necessarily for pyro.

I have another thread that I created that is kind of a dumping ground / whiteboard for ideas on how to build this community. I have ideas! I welcome your ideas also! In this nascent stage, no ideas are off the table. I subscribe to the belief that People are more likely to participate in a world they helped create. So I look forward to the future with eager anticipation and measured optimism!

Thanks for reading! And “Welcome!

Thanks for setting up the forums. Old school tech guy here so I understand the value and appreciate not having to resort to social media to share and look for knowledge with regards to the topics that interest me. Your will be archiving important information here that will help others for generations to come. I look forward to participating in the community.

Great to have you here, @ohiocomputerguy !

I referenced it in the original post above, but I’ll repost it here…
I have created some basic tutorial videos for anyone not entirely familiar with traditional internet forums (basically, most of you under 40).

Re: “all this content is public”… That is essentially true. However, we can create private sections that don’t get indexed by search engines. And these private sections can also be limited to only specific members of the site. So if there’s a use case for you/someone/a group to have a private section, be sure to reach out.

There’s also this topic in the Site Feedback section that outlines the items/updates that we’re currently working on. Ideas for future development / implementation
